Tobago’s athletes remain a source of national pride and the Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs joins in celebrating the achievements of these athletes on the world stage. Track and field athlete Tyriq Horsford, has captured bronze in the men’s Javelin event during the Junior Pan American Games 2021, which is being held in Cali, Colombia. He threw a spectacular distance of 71.33 meters on November 3o. Horsford is a former THA Sport Award recipient for Secondary School Male Athlete of the Year and former Trinidad and Tobago Committee Junior Sportsman of the Year. Among his many other notable achievements, he holds multiple Carifta gold medals and is currently a student of Mississippi State University.

Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs, Assemblyman Tracy Davidson-Celestine, praised Horsford’s consistency as one of the island’s top athletes. She highlighted, “It is with immense pride that I wish to congratulate Tyriq on his success at the Junior Pan American Games. This medal is a symbol of what’s possible when passion meets perseverance, and Tyriq has been a shining example of these virtues since his years coming up as a youth. There exists a tremendous amount of potential in Tobago’s sporting landscape and the Division remains committed to supporting and nurturing this sector. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this island can boast of having five members on the national team that is making waves at the games. We continue to be exceedingly proud of them all and the future is very bright.”

Also making their mark at the Junior Pan American Games 2021 are Tobagonian Swimmer, Ornella Walker; Swim Coach, Mosiah Denoon and track and field athletes; Kelsey Daniel and Anson Moses. The international event commenced on November 26, 2021 and is scheduled to conclude on December 5.

The Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs extends hearty congratulations and best wishes to all of Team Trinidad and Tobago at the games, flying this nation’s flag with excellence.
