Assistant Secretary of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport, Wane Clarke has reiterated the commitment of the Division to support all youth organistions toward the development of Tobago’s young people. Clarke made the pledge during the launch of Youth Assemblyman for Parliatuvier/La’Anse Fourmi/Speyside; Adriel Wheeler’s new non-governmental organisation, Youth Transcending Boundaries. This event was held at the Speyside Anglican Primary School on Sunday January 16, 2022.

Bringing remarks on behalf of Secretary Terance Baynes, Assistant Secretary Clarke shared, “The team must be congratulated for this bold move to inspire the youth of Speyside and environs. In the face of challenging times, it is heartening to see youth be strong. Despite the many trials the organisation may face in these unprecedented times, I call on you to maintain your core focus, dedication to service. As you do so, we at the Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport will stand here steadfast as a partner; supporting you and any other youth organization every step of the way as you strive for excellence and grow to have a positive impact on this community and Tobago as a whole.”

Wheeler, is a member of the Tobago Youth Assembly; an initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs and Assembly Legislature in collaboration Tobago Youth Council. Youth Transcending Boundaries represents the formalisation of Wheeler’s consistent efforts to give support to the youth of his district. The NGO’s motto, “Breaking barriers, building tomorrow” underpins its ongoing commitment to creating a brighter future for the island by advancing its youth.

In his address Wheeler emphasised, “I can’t express how much I love and appreciate all those who would have attended the many meetings over the training period and accepted the call to serve. This organisation was implemented to impact and make a difference in the lives of our fellow youth holistically.” He added that the organisation will underscore importance of exposing young people to skills training and other avenues for the development of meaningful lives. Additional plans include the revitalisation Speyside’s steel orchestra and the re-invigoration of the sporting landscape in the area.

Also in attendance at the launch was Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and Area Representative for Parlatuvier/L’Anse Fourmi/Speyside; Farley Augustine, Presiding Officer of the Assembly Legislature; Abby Taylor and Member of Parliament for Tobago East; Ayanna Webster Roy among other stakeholders.
