Members of staff in the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) are scheduled to benefit from an intensive Professional Development Workshop hosted by the University of the West Indies (UWI) from April 19 to 28, 2021. This workshop will enhance the core competencies and service delivery of the Department as it continues to position the island’s youth for holistic development.

Some of the modules that will be covered via virtual presentations over the course of the workshop include: Peer Mediation, Understanding Youth and Society, Child Rights and Policies, Supporting Youth in Grief and Trauma, and Identification and Prevention of Bullying. These sessions will be conducted by professional facilitators through UWI’s Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Behavioural Sciences.

DYA’s Youth Officers, Youth Auxiliaries, Youth Development Centre Coordinators and other staff will also be joined by key youth-facing personnel from the Department of Sport for the initiative. This forms part of an integrated strategy to encourage cohesion and greater efficiency across the Division of Sport and Youth Affairs.

The Division continues to emphasise the importance of collaboration and capacity building as key tools for the creation of opportunities that can transform the lives of young people in Tobago.
